Press Release: DSM016 - Anile & June Miller - 'Glass Of Greed' b/w Anile - 'Induction'

DSM016
A: Anile & June Miller - 'Glass of Greed'
AA: Anile - 'Induction'

Two of the most talked about producers of recent times, June Miller & Anile, join forces to devastating effect for DSM016, and together they have crafted the darkest release to grace Deep Soul Music so far. This is the first of many tunes from these two as they have developed a close working relationship with their complimentary sounds and styles and they will be gracing DSM with plenty more of their music in the future.

Whilst many have tried to jump on the ‘minimal’ bandwagon and to imitate others styles, ‘Glass of Greed’ is the perfect demonstration of how stripped back, half-step d&b should be done. A pounding kick drum, a deep snarling bass line and sinister vocal snippet all combine to create an aggressive, moody atmosphere similar to that of old Renegade Hardware tracks but with a new twist for 2010. This has been causing carnage on dancefloors the world over, and if Satan himself listened to drum & bass, he would listen to this....

‘Induction’ sees Anile go it alone, and the man himself has even said this is one of his personal favourites of the tracks he has produced. Stripped back to very fundamentals of the genre, you can hear elements of his trademark half-step sound but with the rolling drums and big bass, this is one of Anile’s more dancefloor orientated efforts and judging by the reaction from dj’s and ravers alike, he has got the formula just right.

Press Release: DSM015EP - Triad - 'The Essence EP'

DSM015EP

Triad – The Essence EP

A:Repulse
B:The Essence
C:Aftermath ft. MC Fava
D:Distraction

Deep Soul Music is very proud to present its first single artist ep, as newcomers Triad deliver 4 timeless tracks of stunning depth and beauty. This trio from Germany have made an enormous impression on Drum & Bass in a very short space of time with tracks such as the anthemic ‘Fiasco’ (also released on DSM) and their sublime re-working of Omar & Estelle’s ‘Lay It Down’ drawing praise from all corners of the scene and beyond.

The opening two cuts – ‘Repulse’ and ‘The Essence’ - are tunes more aimed at a club environment. Repulse’s sweeping pads and phased hats push the track forward and the inconspicuous melody adds a subtle musicality that this threesome are quickly becoming known for. The title track of the EP is the heaviest of the 4 with a deep, growling sub bass that is best appreciated on a loud system, and the stepping beats and breathy vocal sample mean this tune is definitely one aimed squarely at the dancefloor.

‘Aftermath’ is a chilled, soulful affair with MC Fava’s sultry vocals perfectly complimenting the laid back vibe and atmosphere of the track, definitely one for the smokers. Distraction steps things down a gear to round of the release. Stripped back beats and bass coupled with slight, hidden melodic nuances creates an ethereal soundscape that is an ideal opening or closing tune for any dj set.

This release is shaping up to be one of the biggest for DSM with all 4 tunes getting played by a whole host of d&b luminaries including DJ Lee, Total Science, Lenzman, Rockwell, Data, June Miller, Anile, Loxy, Lynx, Consequence & SpectraSoul. It looks set to garner both critical acclaim and commercial success upon its release, and further enhance the glowing reputation Triad have built for themselves in the short time they have been in the d&b consciousness, and that of DSM for promoting new talent and pushing the boundaries when it comes to deep, forward thinking drum & bass.

Press Release: DSMDigi002 - Sam KDC - Six Degrees of Separation EP

Sam KDC
‘Six Degrees of Separation EP’

1. Six Degrees of Separation
2. Left Behind
3. Truth Be Told
4. Inspiration Lies

Following on from the debut DSM Digital release, ‘Intelligent Systems Vol. 1’, comes a solo artist ep from one of the most exciting, innovative producers to emerge in drum & bass in recent times. The 4 tracks contained on the ‘Six Degrees of Separation EP’ display an impressive range of musical styles, moods and influences, and further enhance Sam’s already high standing within the scene.

The rolling bongos that come in at the start of the EP’s title track, ‘Six Degrees of Separation’, immediately remind the listener of DJ Die’s famous dancefloor anthem, ‘Drop Bear’. Much like the Die classic, it is these rolling hollow hits that drive the track forward but it is here that the comparisons end. This piece is the very antithesis to a peak time dancefloor track - it is a sublime, emotive composition, full of atmosphere and ambience that is found in very few other drum & bass productions.

‘Left Behind’ is a track that has a dub reggae tinge that subtly underpins and cements the mood of the piece. It is the clever use of the vibrato mandolin in this track that really gives it its character, creating a paradoxical atmosphere of melancholic positivity.

‘Truth Be Told’ is a refreshing antidote to the ethereal soundscapes of the other tracks on the EP. A pounding, hammer like bassline gives this track an aggressive, raw and menacing edge and has been a particular favourite of Loxy’s, featuring in many of his sets over the past few months.

‘Inspiration Lies’ is a laid back affair with more influences from Dub and Reggae, although they are far more overt than those in ‘Left Behind’. Dreamy pads and echoing rim shots coupled with the dubwise vocal, it’s a track that evokes memories of legendary dub producers such as King Tubby & Lee Perry as well as the productions of contemporaries like Double O and Flatliners.

As a whole, this EP is one that rewards the open minded listener. Drum & Bass is inherently a throw away genre, with the majority of tunes designed to make an impact in the club and then be forgotten about. Sam KDC has, however, crafted 4 tunes of longevity and of musical integrity, and 4 pieces of stunningly beautiful music as opposed to simply ‘drum & bass’. It is for these reasons and more that he is so widely respected within d&b circles, and why DSM are proud to be working with such a talented artist.
